Dota 2 Terminology
Common terms, slang, and jargon used by Dota 2 players, traders, and service providers. Knowing them makes it easier to judge a service before you use it.
- Arcana
- The rarest official cosmetic tier in Dota 2: elaborate hero skins that change abilities, animations, and effects. Arcanas are among the most valuable tradable items in the game. Learn more about Arcana
- Immortal
- A cosmetic rarity, usually pulled from Battle Pass treasures, that alters a hero's items and effects. Rare Immortals from retired treasures trade at high premiums. Learn more about Immortal
- Treasure
- A cosmetic chest (often tied to a Battle Pass) that yields a random set item. Once a treasure retires, its items only come from other players, which drives resale value. Learn more about Treasure
- Courier
- The creature that ferries items to your hero. Once a paid cosmetic slot, couriers became a popular early collectible and trading category. Learn more about Courier
- MMR
- Matchmaking Rating, the number that sets your rank. It is the metric players track match to match and the basis for most coaching around the game. Learn more about MMR
